A good week for Godot! August 2025

This was a good week for Godot!
Battlefield 6 Level Editor
EA has just revealed Battlefield 6 (which is getting a lot of hype) and you will be able to edit or create maps not in their own level editor or "demo" engine, but... in Godot!! (Announcement video)

It seems you will be able to use scripting as well, and that it's not a custom fork of the engine but rather an addon developed by them. Details are still not confirmed but... it's definitely interesting!
Let's hope EA gives a relevant amount of funding to Godot too, as they are nowhere near EA's scale and cents for EA could mean a lot for the GD team (and result in a better engine that EA will benefit from). Time will tell (or maybe we just might never know). 🤞
Game Maker's Toolkit Game Jam
Game Maker's Toolkit has hosted his [huuuge] new game jam. Numbers are out and Godot was picked by almost the same percentage of people that picked Unity!

For comparison, I have created this little sheet from the original Mark Brown's post. At this pace Godot might just become the first engine (in Game Jams) in 2026... will it happen?

This doesn't mean that Godot will be magically used in every indie or AAA game right now, but it definitely means that more people are trying it and giving it more chances. It also helps that it's super easy to prototype and iterate with, which makes it a perfect fit for a game jam. How many of these teams would still make the final/commercial game in Godot and how many will switch to another engine like Unity or Unreal?
JetBrain's Rider is now a sponsor of Godot
Rider has been one of my favorite IDEs for quite some time (I work both on Windows and MacOs, and VSCommunity doesn't exist on MacOs anymore 🥲), so it's great to see that they are a Platinum Sponsor now. This is their announcement/blog post in case you are interested and would like to read more.

Let's hope for an even better support for GD Script, C# and the engine in general. (for example: as of Today moving files around from Rider's UI doesn't move their relative .uid files - unlike Unity's .meta, which work out of the box - breaking scripts references and forcing you to move everything only in Godot.)
On an unfortunate note, JetBrains just announced they are increasing pricing to their subscriptions due to inflation. Meh. It's a whole 20% to 25% increase, which will most likely make us look to alternatives soon (as it was really pricey already even with the startup discount and we're not using all its features).
Sooo yeah, this was a good week for Godot and I wanted to share it here and remember these bits for the future!
On the other side, Unity will have their big conference (Unite) in November and I expect them to announce something there, as usual. Looking closely! It's really good that we have this competition now, as it means better products for us developers all around.
