The Best Gamescom so far! August 2025

We just attended devcom and Gamescom in Cologne last week and we had a really wonderful time!

The best gamescom (so far)

It was the best Gamescom for us so far!

It's the first time we attended without having to look for publishers and it was... incredible. So many great connections and so much time and energy to actually listen to people and create new opportunities, instead of doing 30 minutes meetings back to back (which are actually 20 minutes speedruns) running from one hotel or booth to another, just to go back to emails after you both recovered from the event and then... wait.

I remember this whole process and it's brutal. Glad to be able to skip it for this year. Not giving it for granted for the next.

The mood

I have asked so many people (from different roles and company sizes) about their general mood (as I always do) and it seems that things are stable-ish! Not meaning it's like the Covid era where investors/publishers had infinite money and signed game ideas on paper... but more like: people are optimistic again. The investments curve is somewhat adjusting/flattening instead of going only downhill (even if AI is now contributing to layoffs etc, e.g. Microsoft this July), and things are moving.. slowly. Reeeeeeally slow. Doesn't help that some publishers closed down now, and some others are signing one game per year... but at least discussions are back.

Fingers crossed for next year!

My devcom talk went well too!

What is devcom?

Devcom is a conference for developers that lasts for 2 days and is located in Cologne, just next to and before Gamescom. It contains an exposition floor where there are stands with companies showcasing games and tech, and two floors with many rooms that run talks from different topics.

I gave my talk at devcom (a few days before Gamescom)! Organizers were happy, the audience was happy and I was happy as a result so... win-win-win!!!

You never know for sure during your speech, as there are many things going in your brain while you're also trying to stay within the time slot. I finished on time BUT without being able to answer questions, so we just moved outside the room and I was really happy answering them! Many genuine and lovely people and I'm so glad they attended (especially given that it was the last day and we were all a bit tired). If you were one of them: thank you so much!! 🥹 You made my day and I really appreciate it. See you at the next!

I'm planning to release either the full video or (more probably) curated posts about it, so be sure to stay updated if you don't want to miss it!

Goodies

Some extra stuff I found interesting:

  • The queue to try the 10 minutes Silksong demo reached 2 hours on Wednesday morning D: (which should be the most quiet moment of the entire event)... I have also heard other days reached 5 hours... I am glad the game is coming out soon.
  • Cult of the Lamb had a GIANT booth. With a GIANT head in the center. And screens showcasing the game and of course our text animator 🥹.
  • We also saw other Text Animator games (e.g. Constance, Is This Seat Taken and many more) and we are really happy meeting developers in person 🥹 (everyone's so friendly AAAAAH).
  • The weather was wonderful. 23 degrees max (celsius); it was a good break from Italy's 31/32.
  • I met with the Fangamer.eu people and they had a wonderful booth full of gadgets, especially from indie games. Highly recommended if you want to get some merch of your favorite games. (Not a sponsor, I'm just genuinely happy about it!)

In Conclusion

It was a wonderful year for us! The first one where I do not lose my voice and do not need two weeks of rest after it, too.

Thank you so much for the lovely insights, feedbacks, intros and much more - and in case you have not attended (or we weren't able to meet): thanks for reading here anyways! We have many new things coming out soon (!!!) so see you on the next post!

Thanks for reading! ❤️
