LinkedIn Will Use Your Data to Train AI [How to Opt Out]
LinkedIn is using your data to train AI models. Here's how to opt out and what it means for your privacy.
How do I opt out of LinkedIn AI training?
Yet another company will be using your data to train their AI. Starting November 3rd, 2025, LinkedIn will automatically include your profile data and public posts in their generative AI training pipeline unless you opt out before then.
I don't know who asked for it, but I imagined "knowing people"(how they wrote, thought and interacted online) was a core value of hiring them. Emphasis on people.
Quoting the email LinkedIn sent out this weekend:
This [AI training] can help hirers find and reach you more easily, and assist members in creating content such as profile updates, messages, and posts. This could include data like details from your profile and public content you create on LinkedIn.
I mean... we already have people replying with generic AI responses, and others writing nonsense opinions via ChatGPT just to boost engagement. It's another sign of how the industry keeps shifting in ways that don't always benefit the people in it. Or crazy hyperboles like "here's what [tragic life and personal event] taught me about scaling Software as a Service, Read More", which this platform seems to like.
I'm looking forward (ironic) to see all of this automated via one or two clicks, inside the same platform, and know people even less. LinkedIn a lotof members, so the training dataset this gives them is not small.
Opt out
You can opt out going to your Profile Settings -> Data Privacy -> Opt out to "Data for Generative AI Improvement". Otherwise you'll be included from November 3rd, 2025 (at least in Europe). The setting is off by default, meaning you have to actively go and disable it to not be included.

I miss the internet from a few years ago. At least some companies are moving in the opposite direction, like Minecraft removing code obfuscation to be more open.
Frequently asked questions
Does LinkedIn's AI training apply outside of Europe?
The opt-out requirement is specifically mentioned for Europe, likely due to GDPR. Users outside Europe may have fewer protections and should still check their privacy settings.
What data does LinkedIn collect for AI training?
According to LinkedIn, this includes profile details and public content you've posted, such as posts, comments, and articles.
Is there a way to delete data already collected?
Opting out stops future collection, but it does not necessarily remove data already used. You'd need to contact LinkedIn directly or submit a data deletion request under applicable privacy laws.
