Text Animator for Unity 3.0 is out! UI Toolkit, new animations and more

We are incredibly happy to share that Text Animator for Unity 3.0 is finally out!!

UI Toolkit Support (Unity 6.3+)

It's no easy task to work on something adopted by so many people, with so many different expectations and needs, also on top of a software/engine that keeps improving its own systems (like UI Toolkit) and ways to ship projects for different platforms months after months. All while we opened the door for a Godot and an Unreal Engine version, with the former already in early access and the latter coming soon. Making tools is hard!

We learned a lot these past 5 years, are incredibly grateful for all the game developers that supported our work since 2020 and we can't wait for the next years of Text Animator with this new version!

What's new

UI toolkit is now supported! Simply drag and drop the animated label, write an effect tag inside the inspector and you will see animations working straight away, even in Edit Mode.

We completely redesigned our animation engine, allowing you to play any effect at any stage of a letter (when the text is appearing, disappearing or just... forever), and you also have better control over individual effects.

With simple tags you can choose to play any animation just once, make it loop multiple times and many other combinations.

And you can also apply custom curves to already existing effects, achieving countless variations and personalizing your game even more.

We also improved the Editor experience, with better previews - from effects to animation curves, new custom inspectors for all components and we also added extra tooltips where they matter the most.

We spent A LOT of time to make sure your experience is as easy and straightforward as possible, while putting all the work and pain points on us, behind the scenes.

By writing a simple effect class now (with two short "wrappers" necessary for AOT platforms), Text Animator will already provide you with custom inspectors, curve management, optimization and all the other features we covered in this article.

Performance improved a lot as well, by the way. Not that it was ever an issue.. but some of you... reeeally wanted to animate everything.
