Yarn Spinner Integration, Typewriter Events and more - Text Animator for Unity 3.1

Hi everyone!! We just released a new update for Text Animator for Unity, version 3.1!

Yarn Spinner Integration

Yarn Spinner is now officially integrated with Text Animator 3!

It's a powerful tool that lets you write dialouges like this:

-> What's going on? <<once>>
    Guard: The kingdom is under seige!
-> Where can I park my horse? <<once if $has_horse>>
    Guard: Over by the tavern.
-> Lovely day today!
    Guard: Uh huh.
-> I should go.
    Guard: Please do.

And it also has a visual debugger, works directly in Unity and many other great features. It has supported Text Animator since its very first beginnings, so it's great to see 3.X officially supported as well (we worked together to create this integration too, which is exciting as well because it means it's exactly how we envisioned it).

Yarn Spinner has been used in games like Dredge, A Short Hike, Night in the Woods, Little Kitty Big City and many more, and you can get the tool or discover more here: https://www.yarnspinner.dev/

News Panel

You can now stay updated about new releases, integrations, events and much more directly in the Editor! There will be times in the future where we'll attend or host some events regarding Text Animator, as well as releasing many new updates that I'm sure you'll appreciate - but the previous "update system" (a small "changelog" in the asset store, or the documentation sub-page) was not as accessible.

We want to celebrate the new releases! And this new panel in the "About Window" is a step towards that direciton.

More Typewriter Events

You can now use more events:

  • When the typewriter has started waiting for a character
  • When the typewriter has finished waiting for a character

This is especially useful if you want to play sounds during a wait, and then stop once the letter is fully shown and waited.

More changes

Other than that, we have fixed some issues like the "waitforinput" action not being correctly serialized in the builtin Actions Database, or the typewriter not starting correctly if parent object was disabled.
